Project Partners: Golden Futures & New Future for Children
Our partner in Cambodia is New Future for Children (NFC), a children’s centre in Phnom Penh. We also work with Golden Futures, a UK charitable trust supporting education in Cambodia on this initiative. Volunteers from InterVol have volunteered at NFC since 2006 supporting the children to get into universities and work to kick-start their careers, breaking the cycle of poverty. Now, volunteers from the University of Nottingham have the opportunity to work with young adults who have recently graduated from NFC as well as those in their final years at the centre, providing them with careers advice and guidance on university applications.
The majority of children at NFC are day students from the local community from low-income families while there are a small number of live-in students. There is also an opportunity to work with New Future for Children’s sister programmes working in similar roles on community education programmes. The project is normally conducted in the months of July and August.
Skills required: Experience or knowledge of working and communicating with young adults.
Project duration: 4 weeks (negotiable).
Number of volunteers: 4-5.
